Angel Abuelo

Associate Professor, Michigan State University

Dr. Angel Abuelo, DVM is an Associate Professor of cattle health in large animal clinical sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University.  He is passionate about cattle internal medicine and dairy production medicine; as well as about training the next generation of bovine practitioners; as such he splits his time between teaching veterinary students, providing veterinary services to dairy farms, and conducting research to help to advance the dairy industry. His research interests are related to the transition period of dairy cattle (particularly the interaction between nutrient metabolism, oxidative stress, and immunology) and calf health management. Beyond his research he works with MSU Extension to further educate and help the dairy industry. As part of that work, he is involved with a joint USDA project with Cornell and Wisconsin Veterinary Colleges to alleviate the shortage of rural veterinarians in the US by increasing awareness of rural practice among DVM students and providing continuing education to early-career veterinarians working in veterinary under-served areas.
