Erin Horst, PhD, Dairy Technical Consultant, Elanco Animal Health

Erin Horst grew up on a small farrow-to-finish swine operation in Van Horne, Iowa. She attended Iowa State University for her B.S. in Animal Science. Following graduation, she stayed at Iowa State and completed a PhD in Animal Science under the direction of  Dr. Lance Baumgard. Erin’s research focused on inflammation and its impact on energetic and calcium homeostasis. She has worked as a technical consultant in the dairy industry since 2020 and joined Elanco Animal Health in September of 2022. Erin lives in Cottage Grove, Minnesota.

 

On Thursday February 2nd we will be hearing from Erin Horst in her presentation titled “Deep Dive into Transition Cows” where she will highlight how hyper-inflammation may be interfering with a successful adaptation to lactation. Her presentation stems from a recent review published in the Journal of Dairy Science by Drs. Erin Horst, Sara Kvidera, and Lance Baumgard titled “The influence of immune activation on transition cow health and performance—A critical evaluation of traditional dogmas”.
